State House gives its OK to gay rights The Olympian The House voted to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment and housing Friday. said Rep. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, who champions the bill annually and saw it pass 61-37 in the House last year and pass this year 60-37 with one lawmaker absent. Cox, noting many religious groups oppose homosexuality, said the bill would give protection to homosexuals over the established freedom of religion. And he argued against comparing the bill to civil rights legislation, noting racial minority groups were denied voting rights, segregated and sent to internment camps. The bill, HB 2661, has been sent to the Senate housing committee for a public hearing Tuesday, and if it’s passed out of the committee, it will wait for a final vote on the Senate floor. There, Sen. Bill Finkbeiner, R-Kirkland, has said he will switch his vote and support the bill, which died 25-24 last year.

On Friday, Vigil dismissed charges of aggravated battery, conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and criminal damage to property against Montoya and Valdez because prosecutors did not notify them they were targets 10 days before the grand jury that indicted them met, as legally required.
